Great is thy faithfulness
Scripture: The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV
One of the many wondrous things God does for me is waking me up with a song of worship in my heart. This morning, the hymn "Great is Thy Faithfulness" resonated deeply within me. I found myself singing it all the way to work, reflecting on the faithfulness of God. Merriam-Webster defines faithfulness as being steadfast in affection or allegiance (loyalty) or providing strong assurance (binding). Representing all the qualities and attributes of our relationship with the Father in Heaven.
As I sang the hymn, I remembered all the times God has been faithful, even when I turned away from Him. I recall my high school graduation and the transition to college. During that time, I distanced myself from the church—not because of people, but due to its strictness. In my mind, I sought freedom. The Lifetime Movie Network became my refuge. I was young and uninformed about the true meaning of God's word, and during that period, I experienced my greatest bondage.
But like the prodigal son who returned home, I eventually recognized the importance of being part of the church. I repented and turned back to God. Throughout it all, He remained faithful to me—protecting me, interceding for me, revealing the gifts He placed within me, and surrounding me with people who held me accountable. Our God is faithful. He promises to never leave us or forsake us. Let me encourage you: there is nothing too hard for God. Even when family and friends turn their backs on you, the Lord is still with you.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your unwavering faithfulness in our lives. As we navigate the ups and downs, remind us of your steadfast love and support. Help us to recognize the moments when we may stray, and draw us back to you with open hearts. Lord, I pray for anyone feeling lost or distant from You. May they find comfort in knowing that Your arms are always open, ready to receive them back. Inspire them to seek the true freedom that comes from being in your presence and living according to Your word.
Grant us the courage to embrace accountability and surround ourselves with those who encourage our faith. Remind us that, even in our struggles, You are working for our good and guiding us toward our purpose. Thank You for the gifts You’ve placed in us and the people You’ve put in our lives. Help us to be vessels of Your love and faithfulness to others, sharing the hope that we have in You.
In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
