The Role of Intercessors in Revival (Part 2)
To fully grasp your role as an intercessor in revival, it is essential to study past moves of God. Each revival throughout history was birthed through prayer, spiritual hunger, and divine intervention. By examining these revivals, we can learn valuable lessons and discern how God is moving in this season. As you reflect on these historic awakenings, seek God in prayer for His plans for revival today. Below, I have highlighted some of the most significant revivals from the past three centuries.
Stories of Past Revivals: What We Can Learn
The First & Second Great Awakenings (18th & 19th Century, USA & Europe)
These revivals were marked by bold preaching, mass repentance, and a shift in culture. Men like Jonathan Edwards and Charles Finney led movements that transformed entire regions.
· Lesson: Revival happens when people boldly preach the truth and prioritize prayer over programs.
The Azusa Street Revival (1906, Los Angeles, USA)
Led by William J. Seymour, this movement sparked Pentecostal revival, bringing racial unity, spiritual gifts, and passionate worship.
· Lesson: Revival is about hunger for God’s presence, not a specific leader or denomination.
The Jesus Movement (1960s-70s, USA)
During a time of rebellion, young people—hippies, skeptics, and outcasts—encountered Jesus. Thousands were baptized, and a movement of worship and evangelism was born.
· Lesson: Revival often starts when God reaches those considered “unlikely.”
👉 Challenge: Study past revivals and pray for God to move in a similar way today.
Conclusion: Will You Be an Intercessor for Revival?
Revival isn’t a distant hope—it’s a promise when God’s people humble themselves and pray (2 Chronicles 7:14).
Let’s commit to praying for revival:
· Pray for boldness to share the Gospel.
· Pray for churches to be on fire for God, not lukewarm.
· Pray for schools, workplaces, and communities to experience God’s presence.
